Forum “How to prepare to export meat to Japan”

“Value Chain Challenges”

It was held on Tuesday, September 10, during Expo Prado 2019, with an estimated audience of more than two hundred people, which filled the Shed of Events, in a very suitable framework for activities related to the agricultural, commercial and industrial sectors.

It was organized by the Uruguayan-Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry and sponsored by the Rural Association of Uruguay and the Embassy of Japan.

The Forum was opened by the President of the Chamber Ec. Isidoro Hodara with words of welcome.

Next, His Excellency the Ambassador of Japan, Mr. Tatsuhiro Shindo, highlighted the good acceptance that has had the meat of Uruguay, in the

In the case of a chain of restaurants with 120 establishments, the stock has run out.

The presentations of the speakers were all, technically of a very high level, referred to the challenges that will face the industry, production and marketing to meet the high standards of quality demanded by the Japanese consumer.

Daniel de Mattos, General Manager of Breeders & Packers, Ricardo Reilly, Director of the Rural Association of Uruguay and Federico Stanham, President of the National Meat Institute. The event was moderated by the specialized journalist Nicolás Lussich.

Toshio Kii, who thanked the Chamber for the invitation to the Forum and his nomination to close the event, expressing that it will contribute to increase interest in the Japanese market.

Mr. Kii informed that in the first semester the Uruguayan meat import reached 152 tons. It turned out to be news, since it transpired that many restaurants exhausted their stock, which indicates the important demand.

Although this figure is far from the import of meat to Japan from other origins and the volumes that in the past Uruguay exported to that destination, it is estimated that these quantities will continue to grow. Therefore, Uruguay should take advantage of other opportunities such as the Foodex Fair.

It was an excellent opportunity, with important public attendance, linked to the productive, industrial and marketing sectors, in a framework such as the Expo Prado Fair, to hear firsthand the challenges facing the value chain of meat in our country to successfully reach the Japanese market.

It is estimated that this Event organized by the Chamber will contribute to the growth of interest and business between companies from both countries, as well as other services and activities that our Chamber promotes to promote economic and cultural relations between Japan and Uruguay.
